I am the lead teacher for second grade, a member of the School Improvement team, and serve on the district RtI committee. I have team taught with other teachers and looped with my current class from first grade to second grade. During my free time, I enjoy spenidng time with my husband and two children. Some of my favorite things to do with my family include exploring the outdoors, playing games, and watching my children participate in various activities. I look forward to working with the students and families at AECS. I think this will be a wonderful opportunity to help me grow as an educator. I love to learn and strengthen my own teaching practices.
I graduated from Northland College with a degree in elementary education. I worked at the Lake Superior Primary school for 4 years teaching second grade. During that time I have worked collaboratively as a team teacher and in my own classroom. My hobbies include; running, gardening and doing anything in the outdoors with my husband and three kids. I look forward to teaching your students at the Ashland Elementary Charter school, as I accept the challenge to rethink everything and discover the possibilities that abound in the School District of Ashland.
I have a B.S. in Outdoor Education and Natural History from Northland College and recently completed the Graduate Teaching Licensure program at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. I LOVE being outside and I am a total "Bird Nerd"! I also enjoy going to the beach or being on or near the water whenever possible. I grew up in Madison, WI and I am very close to my family. I currently live in Bayfield, WI. I have been convinced of the value of experiential education for many years, stemming back to my own experience in my childhood and adolescence. I believe whole-heartedly in the philosophy behind Project Based Learning and I am thrilled to be a part of the Ashland Elementary Charter school! I truly consider this my dream job.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Peace, Conflict Resolution and Global Studies from Northland College. I completed a Master Program at UW-River Falls in Elementary Education, certified to teach grades 1 through 8. Most recently I served as the Gifted & Talented Coordinator for the Ashland School District. Prior to joining the Ashland School District, I ran a volunteer reading program with community members at the elementary schools in Duluth, MN. I also worked as a substitute teacher in the Bayfield schools and as a private tutor. I grew up in Bayfield. When I am not at school, I like to be outside and spend time; snowboarding, cross country skiing, mountain biking and hiking with friends and family enjoying Lake Superior. Travel has played a fundamental roll to my education, taking me to Mexico for extensive travel and learning experiences. I have been to Thailand and around the world on ships in a study abroad program in my undergraduate studies. I hope to combine my strong connection to Lake Superior and local community with an ever increasing global connectedness when working with students to create a multi-dimensional learning environment.
